FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash extensions are synthetic fibers, that are individually applied to each natural lash.  The lash extension is semi-permanently applied to the base of the natural lash, and not on the skin of the eyelid, with a specially formulated adhesive that is safe for the eye area. There are a variety of curls, lengths, diameters, and colors, which allows me to fully customized your lash map, based on your desired look and the health of you natural lashes.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LASH EXTENSIONS?

Most people are good candidates for lash extensions. There are now so many options when it comes to lash extension materials and application techniques, that the lash set can be 100% customized to fit the needs of you natural lashes. Just like fingerprints, everyones natural lashes are different. Length, texture, density, and growth direction vary wildly from person to person.  This means all lash extension sets will look a little different, but gorgeous none the less.

If you have damaged lashes, large gaps in the lash line, a super fine texture, very short natural lashes, or tend to pick and pull at you natural lashes, lash extensions may not be a good beauty investment for you. If this is the case, I would recommend a great lash growth serum to rehab your natural lashes and then revisit lash extensions in a few months time, and/or lash strips that can be applied and removed daily.

Those who have sensitivities to lash extension adhesive, acrylic nails, super glue, etc. would also not be good candidates.

HOW DO I PREP FOR, AND WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT, MY APPOINTMENT?

When you come to your appointment it is best to come makeup free.  Appointments are scheduled in blocks of time, so the more time that is spent removing makeup, the less time there is to apply lash extensions. It is best to come ready to relax and potentially to take a nap. This means no caffeine, pre-workouts, or any kind of stimulant. Stimulants can cause the eyelid to twitch and flutter, which makes it very difficult to apply the lash extensions. Try to imagine threading the eye of a sewing needle is a moving car-it is very hard! :) This also applies to talking, as talking can also cause the eyes to twitch. I look forward to meeting and catching up with my clients, and like to do that while cleaning and prepping the eye area. Once I begin lashing, talking should be kept to a minimum, so that I can lash as effectively as possible.

If it is your first time seeing me, we will do a quick consultation prior to starting.  We will discuss lash wants and expectations and I will answer any questions or concerns.

WILL LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?

NO! Lash extensions will not damage your lashes, if they are SAFELY AND PROPERLY APPLIED by a LICENSED and CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL. Sorry for yelling (lol) but I want to make it perfectly clear-LASH EXTENSIONS ARE SAFE! At the beginning of each appointment I assess that state and health of your natural lashes, and apply the lash extensions accordingly. I will never apply a lash extension that I feel is too long or too heavy for your natural lash to support. If I were to apply an inappropriately sized lash extension, there is the potential for damage. When you apply a lash extension that is too heavy for the natural lash, it can put too much stress on the lash causing it fall out prematurely, and it can permanently damage the follicle. HOWEVER, when lash extensions are applied correctly, you have ZERO damage, and can potentially see growth and improvement. One thing to remember, we naturally loose lashes everyday. This is called "shedding" and we shed 1-5 natural lashes every day. Since lash extensions are attached to the natural lash, and not the skin, the lash extension will shed with the natural lash, when that lash has reached the end of it growth cycle. This is normal! You may notice the shedding more because now there is a lash extension attached to the natural lash..

HOW LONG DO LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Longevity depends on life style, hair growth cycles and speed, and at-home care. When properly cared for, you should expect to touch up, or fill, you lashes every 2-3 weeks. Also, if cared for properly, at the end of the 2-3 week period, you should have at least 40% of you lash extensions remaining. If you do not, please schedule your fill sooner, as anything less than 40% is considered a full set. We can then troubleshoot and figure out the best way to improve your retention.

HOW DO I CARE FOR AND MAINTAIN MY LASH EXTENSIONS?

I cannot stress enough how important it is to take care of your lash extensions. The better you take care of them, the better they will look and the longer they will last. Daily cleansing is one of the most critical, at-home care components. You will want to cleanse every day with a foaming lash cleanser and soft fluffy brush. (see my Instagram highlights for a cleansing video). If you are oily, I recommend cleansing twice a day. If you work out or swim (ocean and pool), cleanse directly after those activities, as sweat, salt, and chlorine can break down the adhesive. Oils are the biggest enemy of lash extensions. Oil breaks down the adhesive causing the lash extensions to fall off prematurely. This is why cleansing is so important, you want to remove any oils your body produces, as well as any oils from skincare, makeup, hair, etc, from the lash extensions, as well as the eye area. If at all possible avoid using any oil based products around the eye. Other things to consider are:

-Avoid applying mascara to the lash extensions.

-Use only powder or water based eyeliners-waterproof and pencil liners are hard to remove and may effect lash retention.

-High heat can straighten curl and even singe lash extensions, so use caution when using a hairdryer, oven, grill, candles, lighters, etc.

-Do not get your lashes wet during the first 24 hours. The adhesive needs that time to cure properly.

-Brush the lashes with a clean spoolie , throughout the day.

-Pre-book your lash fill, every 2-3 weeks.
